Skyward

This page contains my fan art of Skyward by Brandon Sanderson.  This series consists of the novels Skyward, Starsight, and Cytonic; and the novellas (co-written by Janci Patterson) Sunreach, Redawn, and Evershore.  Only Skyward is included in this album.  This series is not part of Sanderson's Cosmere universe, but is instead the basis for the Cytoverse.

Please consider voting to support my DDF Poco set on lego ideas!  It is free, but it does require you to make an account to prevent bots from vote-spamming.  If we can get 10,000 votes, lego will evaluate it from a business standpoint and consider making it into an official set.

Spoiler note: there are significant spoilers for the Skyward series contained herein.  These are primarily for the first book, but there are a few minor spoilers for later books.  For example, there are a few life forms from Sunreach.  In general, I advise never looking at fan art from a book or series unless you have finished that book or series.

You can view the files either through the gallery below or the individual image links just below the gallery. Below that, I have included a discussion of the build and some of the customization involved, followed by copyright and use information. If you're on mobile, the menus are at the bottom of the page.

Lego building instructions and parts lists for my Poco model (version 2, as depicted in the first photo in the album), my Alta Base model, and for Taynix (Doomslug etc.) can be found on my instructions page.

About this build

Minifigures: the white legs with black boots are officially only sold with printing on them.  I removed the printing using a bench grinder with a speed regulator so I could slow it down enough to wipe the printing without eating through the plastic.  I used a cloth polishing attachment and liberal amounts of Brasso as a polishing agent to remove the print.  The torsos were made using waterslide decals, and Mongrel and Morningtide's heads were designed by me and printed by BrickSanity.

Ships: MBot can change wing positions as shown in the official artwork.  The round dome behind the cockpit can be rotated to turn an internal gear assembly that shifts the wings.

Photography: to create the sky, I scattered most of my dark grey plates on a blackout curtain over a 6' x 6' table.  I took a photo at a downward angle and then inverted it.
