Wheel of Time Chess Set
This page contains photos of my lego chess set based on The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. It features a board with the map of Roshar inlaid amongst the squares, with Dalinar's coalition taking the white side and Odium's forces taking the black side. The board is mounted above a scene in Shadesmar, with Lasting Integrity in the center and four crystal trees holding up the corners. Insets around the top block just below the board show the Heralds, the Unmade, the Stormfather, the Nightwatcher, and four Larkin. In total, there are 59 minifigures.
Spoiler warning: major spoilers through Rhythm of War can be inferred from the minifigures. I completed the build before Wind and Truth was released, so there are no spoilers here for that.
You can view the artwork either through the gallery below or the individual image links just below the gallery. Below that, I have included a discussion of the lego build, followed by copyright and use information. If you're on mobile, the menus are at the bottom of the page.

About this build
There is a lot of customization in this one, including 94 custom prints. The minifigures mostly used digital UV printing directly on the lego, and the various tiles mostly use direct to film (DTF) transfer decals. DTF decals are somewhat similar to stickers, but the ink is printed onto a film which you eventually peel off of the part, so there is no clear border left by the sticker. Even better is the fact that DTF decals can be printed with white ink, so you can make a bright design on a dark part without needing to use a white sticker underlayer. The resolution isn't quite as good as UV printing, so I still prefer UV for minifigures, but it is a good way to do lots of lower-priority parts on a budget.
The base contains a network of 25 LEDs from Light My Bricks to light up the candle flames seen in Shadesmar. Due to poor planning, the battery compartment and power switch are directly below one of the trees.
